WHSP Welcome

About the Women's Health Science Program

The Women’s Health Science Program for High School Girls and Beyond (WHSP) was created by the Institute for Women’s Health Research to prepare and empower a diverse population of high school girls to successfully become the next generation of women leaders in science and medicine.

WHSP offers four science academies: Oncofertility Saturday Academy, Cardiology Summer Academy, Infectious Disease Summer Academy, and Physical Science Weekend Academy.  Each academy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to (1) develop science mentoring relationships (2) experience laboratory and clinical procedures, (3) explore and prepare for careers in science, and (4) to be empowered with women’s health knowledge.

Parents/guardians of the high school girls have an active role in the program to advocate for their daughters pursuits in science.  Science professionals and university students share their time and expertise with the high school girls and are encouraged to recruit their colleagues to participate in this informal science program.  Our ultimate goal is to increase the representation of girls and women in science.

WHSP is a proud recipient of The Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.
