WHSP Student of the Week: Tandra Giles

We are proud to announce that Tandra Giles is this week’s WHSP Student of the Week.  Tandra Giles is a 2010 high school graduate of Young Women’s Leadership Charter School.  Tandra participated in both the Cardiology Summer Academy 2009 and the Oncofertility Saturday Academy 2010.  Tandra has already started her freshman classes at Clark Atlanta University.  Over the summer she changed her major from Psychology to Biology.  Tandra was asked why she made this decision and she attributed it to her experiences in WHSP.  This fall she is taking two science courses, General Biology and General Chemistry.  Both of these science courses are with laboratory.  She loved the hands-on laboratory and clinical activities of WHSP and is looking forward to applying them to her college science courses.  She is also applying for an internship at a hospital in the Atlanta area.  Part of the internship application process asked Tandra to select areas within the hospital she would like to work in and she selected oncology and cardiology.  Do you see the connection?  Megan Faurot, WHSP Director, was very proud and enthusiastic to write Tandra a letter of recommendation for this opportunity.  Let’s all wish Tandra success in her first semester of college!
