IDSA Students Prepare at Northwestern University

The IDSA film team that will produce a film to educate other teenagers about HIV/AIDS.The IDSA film team that will produce a film to educate other teenagers about HIV/AIDS.The 14 high school students selected into the Infectious Disease Summer Academy (IDSA) came to Northwestern University on Tuesday, July 20th for a 2-hour preparation workshop.  This was the fourth of five preparation workshops that the high school students participate in.    The purpose of the preparation workshops are to prepare the high school students with relevant background information so they can fully engage and succeed in the academy modules.  The three topic areas of respiratory, perinatal, and sexually transmitted diseases were introduced to the high school students.  In the next two weeks, the high school students will be producing three films to educate other teenagers about these areas of microbiology and infectious diseases.  The three film teams, each composed of 4 - 5 high school students, one undergraduate student, and one medical student, were formed and together began researching science and health information to include in their films at the Feinberg School of Medicine Galter Library.  To view photos of the July 20th preparation workshop, click here.

High school students will be returning to Northwestern University on Thursday, July 22nd to learn how to use video cameras and editting software.  This workshop will be led by Rachel Johnson, Columbia College, Cinematography Major.  Click here to view all upcoming events of the Infectious Disease Summer Academy.
