About CSA
What is the Cardiology Summer Academy?
The Cardiology Summer Academy (CSA) is a one-week summer program designed to educate high school girls, who are considering pursuing a science or medical career, about the field of cardiology and cardiovascular health. This program is offered to 16 girls who are entering their senior year of high school and attend Young Women’s Leadership Charter School of Chicago. The girls are selected to participate in CSA based on a rigorous application process.
Goals
The goals of CSA are to provide the high school girls with the opportunity to:
- Learn and apply science concepts and inquiry skills by doing hands-on laboratory and clinical activities.
- Explore the variety of academic programs and career choices in the fields of science and medicine.
- Develop mentoring relationships with graduate and medical school students, scientists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.
